Stanley captial of Falklands

31 Dec. Stanley on east Falkland, captial of Falklands Island.

On to Zodiacs and another slighlty wet ride to the wharf at Stanley.

Very quaint town with very colourful houses and buildings. There was another huge cruise liner in port with 2,600 passengers. The pop. of Stanley is 2,500 so the town was busy. Visited the museum, that was fascinating and then a beer and a Guiness at a typical English Pub. We were then treated to a talk in the Anglican Catheral, yes the southern most in the world. The minister had presided over the internment of Frank Wild's ashes next to Shackleton's grave on South Georgia in November. Frank Wild's ashes were only found this year, 72 years after he died, and it was on our boat in Nov. that his relatives and the woman who found the ashes after a long search, interned them where he had always wished to be buried, next to his leader. The talk by the local minister on the history of Port Stanley and the work of the church in the area was fantastic. The catheral was very impressive particularly considering that it is in the Falklands. This is remote.

Back on board for a special dinner to celerbrate new year after we had set sail for South Georgia. Fun at the bar until we finally collapsed about 1am. When we left, the average age at the bar dropped significantly. Great day and night.
